It's Heather — again. Or John, or Lisa or some other pre-recorded telemarketer with a pitch to slash the interest rate on your credit cards, mortgage or student loan, lower your utility bills or help with a computer virus.
They're all part of the rapidly growing and largely illegal robocall industry. YouMail, which sells visual voicemail apps for smartphones, estimates that 2.3 billion robocalls were placed nationwide in December.
