Nigerians To Need Tax Certificates To Get Passports

The Executive Chairman of Nigeria's Federal Inland Revenue Service, Babatunde Fowler, has disclosed that the Nigerian Government is to introduce a requirement for an individual to show a tax certificate before obtaining or renewing a passport.

On November 28, at a meeting of the Joint Tax Board held in Abuja, which looked at increased inter-government agency co-operation to enhance tax compliance, he said that without evidence of tax payment, or the prior payment of all tax debts, individuals would not be able to get a passport from the Nigeria Immigration Department.
