Tax breaks for Folgers projects rejected by New Orleans City Council

The New Orleans City Council on Thursday shot down four tax breaks worth millions of dollars for upgrades the Folger Coffee Company made to its roasting plants in New Orleans East.

Council members rejected the company’s applications unanimously, saying that improvements did not meet standards set by the city to qualify for exemptions and arguing the city needed the money in the face of coronavirus-related budget shortfalls.
