Report: Louisiana Sales Tax (Still) Highest in the Nation

It may not be much surprise to consumers in the Bayou State. A report this week from the non-partisan Tax Foundation shows Louisiana with the highest average sales tax in the country.

This marks the second straight year that the state has held the number-one spot. Transactions in Louisiana currently average a 10.02 percent sales tax, compared to 9.99 percent this time last year. The average factors the statewide rate -- 5 percent -- along with more localized rates.

Louisiana is followed by Tennessee (9.45 percent), Arkansas (9.34 percent), Washington (9.20 percent)
