Low pressure system heads for Caribbean, high chance of developing: 1 p.m. update

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center on Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 20) are watching a low pressure system near the Caribbean. The system, they said, has a high chance (60 percent) of developing into a tropical depression in the next five days.

According to the 1 p.m. tropical weather update, showers and thunderstorms with the system have become better organized since Wednesday morning (see the morning update).

NHC senior hurricane specialist Michael Brennan wrote that additional development is possible during the next day or two.
