Louisiana tax refunds will soon be coming on new debit cards

Starting in the new year, Louisiana taxpayers can start receiving their state tax refunds on a debit card. State Revenue Secretary Cynthia Bridges says unless you have automatic deposit or actually request a check in the mail, your refund will come to you on a newly issued VISA debit card.

''You can use it at any retail location that will display a Visa logo, you can also withdraw cash from it at an ATM,'' said Bridges.

Bridges also says the program will also save the state about $500,000, since the department will not be bearing the cost of producing and mailing the card.

''You can still receive a check in the mail if that's the request you make, otherwise many taxpayers will continue to use automatic deposit,'' she said.

It's called the Louisiana My Refund Card and they can only be activated after people call and deliver unique and personal information. Bridges says it's a win-win for the taxpayers and the state.
