IRS: Woman pleads guilty to $1.17M tax scam

A woman who filed false claims for income tax refunds of more than $1.17 million pleaded guilty in the Southern District of Ohio Tuesday.

Mariamne McKinstry, 38, of Roselawn, faces five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for filing false claims to the IRS, according to a news release.

Between 2010 and 2013, McKinstry electronically filed 192 false claims for income tax refunds with the IRS, according to court documents.
